چکیده

The paper presents a theoretical framework which allows to discuss and answer several important questions of holistic design evaluation. The introduced evaluation model is used to discuss the most important holistic design evaluation questions in their physical limit case. The main questions address and include answers to the problem of existence of a decomposition of an overall holistic design evaluation into its constituting partial evaluation criteria, to the inverse problem of aggregation as well as to the problem of evaluation criteria completeness, uniqueness and consistency. The theory developed is exemplified using the example of a bridge robustness evaluation. 1 Motivation

Pillar Design in the Hard Rock Mines of South Africa

This paper gives an overview of the difficulties associated with the design of hard rock pillars in South African mines. Recent examples of large scale pillar collapses in South Africa suggest that these were caused by weak partings which traversed the pillars. Currently two different methods are used to determine the strength of pillars, namely, empirical equations derived from back analyses o...

An Evaluative Case Study Of The Unicef Global Education Project In Iran

In 2000, an evaluation of Iranian elementary education revealed that it did not successfully prepare students for the future. The failure was attributed to the teacher centered, content-oriented education system. In 2001, the Iranian Ministry of Education began a pilot project that introduced an alternative curriculum, known as “Global Education,” with UNICEF’s participation. Global education, ...

Efficient Channel State Information Acquisition in Massive MIMO Systems using Non-Orthogonal Pilots

The objective of this article is to review and benchmark strategies to acquire channel state information (CSI) in time-division duplex (TDD) Massive MIMO systems. In particular, we consider the use of statistical CSI at the base stations (BSs), together with non-orthogonal pilot sequences. Such techniques can theoretically reduce the amount of spectral resources dedicated to channel sounding, t...

Prediction of Tractive Limitations of a Rigid Wheel on Loose Soil

Predicting the tractive limitations of locomotion gears is of critical importance in a robotic vehicle system on natural terrain. In particular, it is imperative for an unmanned mobile robot to avoid getting stuck in loose soil to retain its mobility. From this perspective, this paper attempts to theoretically predict the limitations of a typical wheel in such loose soil based on traditional so...
